My beautiful wedding! That s what I wanted to create, but how to do it on a very small budget. I wanted the whole wedding to look like a dream wedding, but instead it was to be held in a tatty, dingy room lacking in any trace of romance.
What to do, the venue we could afford was nothing special. It s the local community hall. I ve done ballet classes, brownies and guides their, any magic it might have had has left the venue years ago. It s still used for children s groups and classes to this day. The whole place smells of feet!
Enter my friends, Netti, Susan and Anne. What a wonderful bunch, I d no idea they d be so ingenious. Not only did they open up a whole new world of possibilities, they also took up the ideas and ran with them.
Netti had the idea of colour theming the wedding project. We went off to the college library and started looking through the colour magazines. That was fun, I d no idea how much colour choices could change the whole look of an occasion. Finally we hit on a colour theme for the wedding. It was to be, base colour ivory , with a main theme of corn flower blue with a contrasting thistle colour to set the whole thing off!
Lucy, my web surfing friend went off to research how to get the colours into the hall without breaking my little bank. She found a web based company that could hire out ivory chair covers for just two pounds each. What a brilliant idea, so simple and so effective. I d have never thought of hiring chair covers but these chair covers were to make a dramatic difference to whole look of the wedding.
Susan had the idea of buying 10 metres of plain netting from the market and dyeing it corn flower blue to decorate the chair covers. As it happens this became her wedding present to us, now I have 50 blue sashes all cut and hemmed. Goodness they made all the difference. The chair covers were inspirational but the chair covers with the sashes was the icing on the cake!
The chair cover hire company, were very friendly and accommodating and happy to supply and fit the chair covers in good time for the day together with their beautiful sashes. They were also very efficient in collecting the covers after the big day, I didn t have to worry about a thing.
The chair covers completely transformed the venue. The care taken in the choice of the colours meant that the eye was drawn away from the hall and in towards the table and the wedding breakfast.
The chair covers and sashes brought together the colours in my flowers and the bridesmaids dresses. They also made the subtle lilac pinks of the iced roses on the wedding cake look beautiful. The chair covers and sashes transformed the dreary venue into my Dream wedding Breakfast. I ll always remember how romantic and special the occasion was. It just shows what a little bit of ingenuity and a whole lot of friendship can achieve when put together!
